Spark Dental is operated by three brothers who share a passion for dentistry, family and caring for patients. We strive to provide a comfortable, reliable environment where patients can feel at home.
Dr. Sandon Wiedemann was born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta. After high school, he moved to Edmonton where he attended the University of Alberta and graduated with a B.Sc. in Physiology and Development. Dr. Sandon then moved across the continent to Cleveland, Ohio where he earned his Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree from Case Western Reserve in 2013. Upon graduation, he was awarded a scholarship for Excellence in Clinical Achievement. After practicing dentistry in the Cleveland area for two years, he moved back to Calgary in 2015 to spend more time with his family. Dr. Sandon prides himself on providing the most up-to-date techniques in the field while ensuring every patient is relaxed and comfortable. He is very passionate about dentistry and finds getting to know each patient the most rewarding part. Outside the office, he is continually searching for courses and reading materials that will continue to improve the care he provides each patient. For the past few years, he has spent many hours attending courses taught by one of the best dentists practicing today, Dr. John Kois. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Sandon enjoys living an active lifestyle and loves being close to the mountains for hiking, camping, skiing and has recently taken up hockey and curling. During his time in Cleveland, he was involved with many leadership roles and volunteering at the local free clinic and looks forward to giving back similarly to the community of Calgary for years to come.
Dr. Laiton Wiedemann was born and raised in the "small town" of Medicine Hat. He completed his Bachelor of Medical Sciences between the Medicine Hat College and the University of Alberta. In 2014, he graduated from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry with his Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree and moved to Calgary with his soon-to-be-wife Anne Marie. Following his two older brothers into the profession, Dr. Laiton carries a strong passion and love for dentistry. In his downtime at work, you'll often find him reading and discussing cases online with other dentists or researching the latest techniques. He thoroughly enjoys all aspects of practice, but especially loves seeing children. He is always on the lookout for quality continuing education courses to improve his skills and prides himself on delivering the best care possible to his patients. Outside the office, Dr. Laiton enjoys backpacking, playing hockey, snowboarding, and almost any other activity that keeps him active. His wife and their dog, Rowdy, do their best to keep up.
I grew up in Medicine Hat, Alberta. At the time, it was a city of 55,000 but felt very much like a small town. After two years of study at Medicine Hat College, I moved to Edmonton to begin my dental education at the University of Alberta. Upon graduation in 2011, I decided to further my dental training by entering a general practice residency offered by the University of British Columbia. This program, based in Vancouver General Hospital, provided me with the opportunity to further my dental skills and knowledge and gain valuable insight in the ways in which medicine and dentistry work together. What initially attracted me to dentistry was a love of science combined with the significantly challenging technical component of dentistry. What I did not expect from a dental career was how much social interaction it would involve. This has become my favourite part of my job. I love chatting with and getting to know new people every day. When I am not working, it is a safe bet I will be spending time with my wife and our two young children.
Dr. Summer grew up in small town BC where she developed a passion for art and science. Fun fact: while in high school, Dr. Summer was scouted by a university for her exceptional skills in flamenco guitar. She went on to obtain her BSc. Honours in Biotechnology from the University of British Columbia. After spending a few years as a scientist researching cancer therapeutics, she decided to continue her education and study Dentistry at the University on Alberta. Dr. Summer enjoys everyday she gets to practice dentistry, as she gets to use her love of art and science to help her patients.
Spark Dental’s family-run practice in Mahogany Village is now accepting new patients!
