About Veneers

If you’re unhappy with your smile, cosmetic dentistry may be an option for you. Cosmetic dentistry can solve many common concerns such as discolouration, unusual shape and nonuniform teeth.

While there are many options for cosmetic dentistry such as teeth whitening, bonding and clear braces, porcelain veneers can be a great option for those who have concerns with:

  • Uneven spacing
  • Discolouration
  • Size and shape of teeth
  • Worn or short teeth
  • Chips and cracks
  • Exposed roots
  • Gummy smile

What are Veneers?

Veneers are made from porcelain in a specialized local laboratory from the finest materials available. They are created to seamlessly fit over your existing tooth, improving not only the appearance of your teeth, but also reduce sensitivity and damage. Your veneers are meticulously matched to suit your smile in shape, size and colour.

Sometimes, we can also create the veneers in our office using the same materials that are available for fillings. These veneers are more opaque than the porcelain versions and can be used to cover stained or dark teeth.

Veneers FAQ

First, impressions are made of your teeth which are then used to create the veneers that match your smile. Your dentist will work with you to create your perfect smile.

Once your ideal smile is determined, your dentist will polish your tooth surfaces and provide a temporary veneer to protect your teeth while the lab creates your final restorations.

After the lab has created your veneers, your dentist will permanently bond them to each tooth. Once completed, your dentist will do a final check to ensure there are no concerns with your bite.

On average, porcelain veneers last about 10 years and can last longer with the right maintenance.

The porcelain used is strong, but not indestructible. It is recommended you do not bite your nails or chew ice and avoid putting pressure on the teeth by eating tough substances that could loosen the veneers.
