About Teeth Extractions

Teeth may require extraction for a range of reasons including tooth decay, wisdom teeth, overcrowded teeth, impacted teeth and more.

We understand the choice to make a tooth extraction can be a difficult one. Our Dentists at Spark Dental commit to discussing all your treatment options with you to help you make this decision, and will make every effort to make your tooth extraction comfortable.

Wisdom Teeth Extractions

As teens enter adulthood it’s a good time to evaluate their wisdom teeth (or third molars). Wisdom teeth are often removed because the jaw of modern humans is often not large enough to provide adequate space for the teeth to emerge without complication.

During this evaluation we will determine if the teeth are likely to become problematic in the future by becoming impacted, overcrowded or infected, and discuss treatment options with you based on these findings.

If you do choose to retain your wisdom teeth, our expert dentists can provide information on the extra care practices required since these teeth are prone to decay and gum disease.

Extracting Diseased Teeth

Certain teeth may require extraction if they become problematic and cannot be repaired with a root canal or other method.

Potential reasons for tooth extraction include:

  • Teeth broken at or below the gum line
  • Failed root canal treatment
  • Trauma or accidental damage
  • Bone loss due to periodontal disease
  • In preparation for full dentures
  • Orthodontic treatment for overcrowding
