About Dental Crowns and Bridges

Broken or delayed teeth – Compromised teeth can be supported and protected by a dental crown.

Rebuilding Worn Teeth – Grinding can cause important parts of your tooth to wear away, exposing dentin and nerves. To prevent further damage, a crown can provide further protection.

Cosmetic improvements – Teeth that are misshapen, discoloured or chipped can be improved by a dental crown or bridge.

What is the procedure for dental crowns and bridges?

First, the affected area will be completely numbed to make a virtually painless experience. From there, your dentist will remove any decay and damage from your tooth making space for the dental crown to fit with your other teeth.

Next, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth to create a custom crown to fit your smile. In the meantime, you will be provided a temporary crown to protect the tooth.

Finally, your dentist will adhere the crown to the tooth and adjust your bite.

Dental Crowns and Bridges FAQ

As with all your teeth, proper oral hygiene is essential to maintain a healthy smile. This included brushing and flossing in and around your crown or dental bridge to prevent bacteria from forming inside.

A dental crown is a covering for the tooth which is generally made from materials like porcelain, metal or ceramic. It is intended to bond to the healthy rooted tooth that needs support or strengthening.

A dental bridge uses two crowns to fill a gap between from a missing tooth. The center of the bridge is a false tooth called a pontic which fills the gap.
